The WBC heavyweight title will be on the line when Deontay Wilder takes on linear heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in the main event of a Showtime pay-per-view boxing card on Saturday. The card is slated to begin at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime PPV and can be ordered for live broadcast online via Show time, and the Showtime Sports Youtube also.
Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) and Fury (27-0, 19 KOs) have been on a crash course for a long time, but it derailed when Fury left the sport in 2016 amid a doping scandal and medical issues . It took a long time for his return to the ring, going from a victory in November 2015 over the legendary Wladimir Klitschko to a match in June 2018 against Sefer Seferi. Since then he has also beaten Francesco Pianeta and, with two tune-up fights under his belt, declared himself ready for Wilder.
Many wanted to see Wilder take on Anthony Joshua next, but a fit and healthy Fury is an equally enticing fight. Wilder hasn’t even sniffed a loss in his entire career and comes off victories over Luis Ortiz, Bermane Stiverne and Gerald Washington, all knocked out.
This is one of the biggest fights of the year, with Wilder’s purse set to be in the range of $ 14 million, while Fury is set to earn $ 10.25 million, in addition to the two fighters receiving a pay-per-view reduction in income.
The card will also see Jarrett Hurd win the IBF, WBA (Super) and IBO light middleweight titles against Jason Welborn in the featured undercard match. Another title, the vacant IBF mini flyweight (strawweight) title will be at stake in a contest between Mark Anthony Barriga and Carlos Licona.
Yet another title will be in play – on a different map. Adonis Stevenson is putting up his WBC (World) light heavyweight title against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on another card in Canada, but Showtime plans to air the fight leading the action on Saturday, starting at 7:45 p.m. ET on Showtime and streaming via their Youtube channel.
Other undercard fights, which can be viewed below, will also be available to stream via Showtime.
Below, you’ll find everything you need to know to watch the action on Saturday.
